Avatar

So I’ve been hyped about this movie longer than I can even remember. Is it worth watching? It depends on your taste.

Avatar is James Cameron’s baby. You might remember James Cameron for he was the director of the classic Titanic. While Avatar may not be featuring Leonardo di Caprio, Avatar is also ridiculously different from the peaceful world of Titanic.

Avatar takes place on a different planet from Earth. However, the humans are trying to mine a highly desired mineral. The problem is the native “alien” population. Thus the protagonist’s story begins.

So, we have a decent plot, much much hype, and lots of previous fans. Avatar truly does deliver.

Avatar is a must watch for its technological innovation. Its 3D graphics are priceless. If you’ve heard the quote that Avatar will redefine the film industry, Avatar is truly bringing film to the next stage. While wearing 3D glasses for over 2 hours does tire your eyes, especially if you’re like me and not trying to miss a second, it is still definitely worth it.

The setting and graphics of Avatar is incredible. It is so incredible you will have to experience it. It is like as the movie begins, you have been launched out of your seat on Earth into the world of Avatar, literally as in you feel if you reached out your hand you would be able to touch the ferns and smell the forest.

For everything else, I need to see Avatar again. The special effects are so incredible that they take away from the acting and direction. I believe Cameron’s direction is incredible, but the acting is decent for the plot it was given. The characters are very two dimensional. They are like the characters of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, more of a fictional thought than a full fleshed human or alien being.

As for the fighting scenes, there is some firepower, but not quite that intriguing. If you’re expecting hard core action scenes from films such as The Matrix or Live Free or Die Hard, you won’t quite see it in this film.

As mentioned previously, the true jewel of Avatar is its technological innovation. Its technological innovation reminds me of Star Wars, for it is truly very very technologically brilliant.

You will also see a number of different themes from different films in Avatar. For example, you will again see some of that intriguing tech from Minority Report and also see some echoes of the game Final Fantasy.

As for the theme, it does get sort of preachy and political, but it does have a reason to.

Nevertheless, a 4/5 for its technological brilliance.

If you want to be experience this new technology first: run to the theater. If not, there’s no hurry. Just be sure to catch it in theaters because I have a good feeling that this film will be held in a similar tech esteem with Star Wars (1977).
