Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is based on the American game show producer Chuck Barris. It is also the directorial debut of George Clooney and features A-list actors such as Drew Barrymore, George Clooney himself, and Julia Roberts. I was extremely excited to see this film due to Sam Rockwell.
Sam Rockwell does not disappoint in this film. Julia Roberts also does an impressive job. Drew Barrymore seemed a bit flat, and George Clooney’s direction isn’t typical modern Hollywood direction.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind had a 30 million dollar budget, but flopped. It is an interesting storyline, and I found it through a youtube video of Sam Rockwell’s screen test for Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. I like to go into movies blind, so I thought this film would be as humorous as Rockwell’s screen test. I was extremely wrong.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is not your feel good movie. It is as dark as Sam Rockwell’s character Chuck Barris.
And for those who wandered back to this post wondering if it’s true, since it is based on Chuck Barris’ autobiography of the same title– The CIA has vehemently denied Barris’ claims.
Not your family movie, but if you’re in the pits, a movie worth checking out, especially if you love Sam Rockwell and feel like checking out his nude body.
If you also love George Clooney, check this film out as it is his directorial debut.
3/5
In my opinion, the movie was quite flat. There really wasn’t a clear purpose to this film. Was it for enjoyment, autobiographical, or moral? As Clooney mentions, he just wanted to try the plot out. So, I guess this film was an experimental “What if?”.
In the end, worth watching, but also worth skipping. It depends on what you’re in the mood for. Not your typical Hollywood flick.
